Mosborough 2nd XV 31 v 24 Tupton 2nd XV
Mosborough take the spoils but Tuptons young Team take the plaudits as both sides serve up a game to saver!
Tupton travelled to Mosborough with a slightly depleted squad in terms of numbers but certainly not in terms of their enthusiasm as they sought to build on the fantastic effort of last week.
Tupton took to the field to face an extremely experienced Mosborough side and so it was the hosts that came out the blocks strongest but, with Tupton sticking doggedly to their task, they weren't without opportunities themeselves before the hosts crossed for their first try mid way through the half. Undaunted, the Blues worked really hard to hang on to Mosboroughs tails and tackled like demons!
With the Home "pundits" prediction of a tiring outfit, Tuptons superior fitness and mobility kicked in and they were rewarded with James Blakey try from a penalty awarded close to the Mosborough line. Then, much to the surprise of everyone, the Blues took the lead with Sam "Bernard" Curry following up his own kick through and BOOM its 7 - 12 with the successful conversion!
HT: 7 - 12
The second half saw an almost carbon copy of the first as Mosborough introduced a large number of additions with the Coach advising that they were playing for their places next week to which one wag** replied "I didn't want to play this week!!!" - priceless!
Mosborough had definately moved to up the ante and within the next twenty minutes added a further 24 unanswered points at which time Tupton, who were now struggling at scrum time , appeared to have lost their opportunity. But, again, Mosborough tired quickly and Tuptons young guns again came back into the game. A couple of decent opportunities were butchered before Lee Moslin rolled back the years with the maziest of mazy runs to go in under the sticks - little bit of controversy here as Mr Moslin did appear to ground the ball in the garden of the house next to the pitch but the Ref, who wisely sought advice from Skipper for the day Connor Decosta, and the try was given!
Next, as the clock was running down, the big man Connor Decosta himself crossed and with Bernard slotting the conversion the Blues were closing in on the Mosborough score before the Ref decided that it was time for some refreshment and called time on proceedings.
A great effort from both Teams and something to build on ahead of next weeks Pennant game against Matlock - well done chaps!
FT: 31 - 24
