The interest came about through the Cup that was on display in the old museum at Prestons Deepdale Ground.
It was believed to have been donated to the club by the Kay family in its inaugral season 1871/72.
It was one of 2 cups that the club had originally on display at the Reebok where one still resides.
Both these are believed to be the oldest cups related to football in the world.
The new museum plans to open early 2012 and will take up three floors at the award winning Urbis Building near to Victoria Station.
Entrance will be free and over 350,000 visitors are expected per year.
