Tweedmouth travelled to Greenlaw knowing that only a win would be enough for them to retain their Division A status. They made an encouraging start with Thompson and Antcliff both going close before Greenlaw almost opened the scoring when a long range effort struck the woodwork. It was the home team who eventually took the lead when Wheallans pounced after a smart counter attack when the visitors lost possession on the halfway line.
As has been the case of most of Tweedmouth’s games this season, they matched their opponents for the majority of the game, but in this case it was five minutes of madness which separated the two teams. Firstly with five minutes remaining Brydon added a second, his shot trickling agonisingly for the visitors into the net via the back post. Then right on the half time whistle Devaney added a third to effectively kill of the game.
A frank half time team talk from manager Phillips challenged Tweedmouth to make a fast start to the second half and it paid dividends straight away when Antcliff pressured the home defence into an error and he set up Heugh to pull one back for the visitors. Despite both teams having several more chances throughout the second half there was to be no more scoring, Greenlaw running out comfortable winners and Tweedmouth having the consolation of at least going down with a fight.
