Big emphasis on young players at Club Awards

The Annual Presentation Night was held on Saturday 17th May and proved be a very good night for all concerned.

Club Colours were awarded to Lee Davies, Travis Twizell and Damian Twizell. Next up was the U16s who have had a very good season and Coaches Ian McKerchar and Howard Hampson were more than happy to point out that it had been an all round squad performance.

The 3rd XV Player of the Year went to Sean O'Malley one of several U19 players cutting their teeth on the 3rds this season. Another 3rd XV regular Joe Costello took the Young Player of the Year award which was well deserved as Joe has already made a few appearances for the 2nds.

Most Improved Player went to another "Young'un" with Chris Knight making the transition from RL to RU really well and playing many games on the 1st XV this season.

2nd XV Player of Year saw another product of the Mini & Juniors receive the accolade in the form of Gary Molyneaux.

1st XV Players Player award went to another newcomer but slightly older player in the form of the mercurial Danny Kilshaw for some stand out performances this season.

The 1st XV Player of the Year award was presented to Rob Cox following a speech from Coach Phil Johnson who highlighted Rob's commitment to training and the Club in general. In a speech reminiscent to John.F.Kennedy's "ask not what your country (club) can do for you, ask what you can do for your country (club)", Phil was at great pains to make point that the more effort you put in the better the end result and the more enjoyment you derive from it. Rob's award proves that theory as Coxy turned up for training every week and tried his damnedest when on the pitch.

A special award was made to Nancy Anderson who after years of cleaning the club, washing the kit and generally sweeping up after a bunch of messy rugby players has retired. Nancy was clearly moved by the presentation or maybe it was the kiss from Mr. President!

Club President Terry Alexander then presented Sue Broad with his President's Award for all the hard work Sue has done this season.

The main presentation of Sportsman of the Year went to someone who again would turn up for training nearly every week and not only played on the 1st XV , but the 2nd and 3rd Team this season.

Always a good indicator of a clubman when you are happy to turn out for any team, all the more surprising that mid-season after a 2nd XV game you have a mild heart-attack! Yet you are willing and able to still finish the season doing what you love, playing for Tyldesley RUFC.

Therefore the biggest cheer of the night was rightly given for Bill Elliott.

MC for the evening Howard Hughes, thanked everyone for their attendance and hoped that next season the club rugby-wise would start heading in the right direction. For the first time in 28 Years Howard won't part of the match day at Tyldesley next season as he takes on his new role of Team Manager for Macclesfield in National League One.
