A solid team display got Tyldesley a bonus point win, against a side who had won all their previous home games, which included a win against Collegiate, so no one was taking this task lightly, especially given the results in Bongs previous two away fixtures.
Tyldesley had three key players missing, forcing them into making changes, one at the eleventh hour, with all who came in, stepping up to the mark. And to be fair to the hosts they too had personnel missing, but on the day, Tyldesley just had too much in the locker.
Bongs never looked in trouble, from the first to last whistle, running in five tries in each half. As early as the first minute, Tyldesley should have recorded points, after Moore got penalised for crossing, but a Martin penalty attempt sailed wide.
Tyldesley turned the screw, early doors, showing their intent, Norton, Crampton, Cox all drove hard and direct, a few pick and drives had them move close towards the line.
Soulsby shipped it out with Cox providing a great inside ball for S Pulman, who hit the gap well, before touching down by the posts. Martin converted
Scott brown made a good break, and would of touched down, had it not been for a great cover tackle, practically on the try line, from the resulting line out, Davies, brilliantly, stole possession, resulting in a second try.
Quick hands had the ball go out, seconds later D Twizell, came through at pace, and touched down, under the sticks. Martin converted.
Tyldesley now had the bit between their teeth, constantly going forward, via great distribution and backing up.
Superb handling resulted in two quick back to back tries first from J Kirkpatrick then Appleby giving Tyldesley their Try bonus point, by the twenty first minute. One converted.
Moore had a decent spell, but a solid defense refused to be breached, finally, the hosts settled for a converted penalty.
Moore’s defense did tighten, but constant pressure told, resulting in a fifth Tyldesley try. Fetherston broke before moving the ball out, towards C Pulman, for another good team try, conversion added.
Again, Moore settled for a penalty, after Appleby received a yellow, reducing the visitors to fourteen for the last five of the half. Half time 6-33
Bongs, who started the second period a man down, suddenly found themselves two down, two minutes in, after Martin received a, correct red, for a tip tackle, although most could see, it was more accidental, than intentional.
With bongs back to fourteen, Appleby, who’d just returned, linked well with Sargent, after good Tyldesley defense, deep in Moore’s half had possession regained, allowing K Kirkpatrick too cross the whitewash, in the corner. Aldred, who now had taken over the kicking duties, hit the right hand post, with the conversion attempt.
Within minutes, bongs had crossed again. C Pulman received the ball, from a defensive kick, just outside his own twenty two, before making a great break, down the center of the field, spurred on by Pugsley’s, encouragement from the side line, “go on bigun” which defiantly helped to gain a few extra meters.
Fetherston, took it on, but was just stopped short of the line,Cox, who had supported the break well, touched down, as the ball came loose, in contact, Aldred converted.
D Twizell touched down for a second time, after S Pulman, made great inroads, clearing all that stood before him, which came on the back of some excellent work from Barrett and Mcentee. Aldred added the extra two.
With less than five remaining, the visitors crossed for another two scores, superb hands had the ball move out to the right towards S Brown, who finished of some enterprising play. Aldred hit the left hand post, with another well struck, conversion attempt.
The final word went to Norton, who despite having little or no room, brilliantly touched down in the corner, after receiving the ball from Cox, who superbly shipped it out the back door. Aldred added a superb conversion, from afar.
