Tyldesley First XV - Match centre

Tyldesley
Liverpool St Helens
Sat 7 Oct 15:00 - Northern Division - South Lancs & Cheshire Division 1 Full time

Sins punished by saints

Apart from the first twenty minutes or so, Tyldesley constantly misfired, which was frustrating to see, gifting easy yards and possession to LSH, who departed SGP with a deserved win.

Tyldesley started well, via some good attacking kicks, ball retention and support, which gained reward, in the thirteenth minute, after a good line-out formed into a solid driving maul, resulting in Lee Davies touching down, conversion missed.

Poor kicking, a high penalty count against, most correct, and sloppy execution started to turn the tide, gifting LSH possession, which had them turn the screw on the hosts defense.

The visitors certainly finished the half on top, and got their first points of the day in the twenty seventh minute, after good pick and drives, had them touch down for a seven point try.

Six minutes later, they had recorded a second try, after a clever kick and good chase, which came on the back of winning a scrum against the head. Half time 5-12.

LSH had the better of a scrappy second half, adding a further ten points too their tally by the fifty third minute via a penalty and a converted try.

Saints looked to add further points, on a couple of occasions, but excellent last ditch tackles, notably by Berrisford, prevented them from increasing their lead.

Bongs came within touching distance of a bonus point, after Matt Crampton touched down at the back of a driving maul, with just ten remaining.

A second converted LSH penalty, three minutes later, ended any hope of Tyldesley getting something from this game.

Tyldesley have plenty to work on, before their next game in two weeks’ time, October 21, Away v Sefton.
