Under 12's away at Rochdale
A wake up call for the New Year...
We travelled away to Rochdale with a full 16 players available and was met by Rochdale and their 29 players. We agreed to play 13 a-side adding a number 8 to the scrum with a view for gaining experience for next year. Dale split into 2 teams and would swap each quarter. The first quarter started well with both teams holding each other bag with solid defence until Dale's pace and passing came into effect. They quickly recorded 3 tries and we didn't know what had hit us. We then began to settle down and put some pressure on Dale but once again their counter rucking was immense and they took the ball from our ruck and going straight up the pitch untouched for the score. 1st quarter ended 20-0 to Dale.
2nd quarter and facing the other half of dale. This was a more even contest with both teams not buckling under pressure. Both teams created chances and both seemed to cancel each other out and our score came when Luke took the ball at speed and crashed through the defensive wall and going over for the try. This was cancelled out as Dale's speedster took the ball from within his own half broke a couple of tackles and getting away to score. Half time score 25-5 to Dale.
3rd quarter and back to the original half of Dale. They started where they left off and demolished our rucks, stopped us from playing and applied relentless pressure. We couldn't find our Rhythm to get into the game. They scored 5 unanswered tries and made the score 50-5 going into the last quarter.
4th Quarter started against the second half of Dale and we needed to put in a good show. Our defensive line was far better and more aggressive forcing Dale back and back until they where inside their own try line, a misplaced pass had the ball bouncing around before a alert Chayse dived onto it for our second score of the game. We maintained our discipline until Dale's speedster once again broke through after throwing a dummy which our whole team bought and even some of the parents to allow him in to score untouched. Time was up and Dale where attacking once again, they worked through brilliantly to go down the right but winger stepped into touch 2 yards before scoring drawing the final whistle to a good game of rugby.
We where clearly rusty as not played for 4 weeks and hopefully this result is a wake up call and only a blip to our recent form. Thanks to Rochdale for a good game and again very welcoming day. Good luck to them for their second half of season and bag to training for us.
