Under 12's away at Warrington
Tough opposition but good game in great spirit...
We travelled to Warrington and expected to field 12 players but unfortunately only showed up with 9. Warrington loaned us 1 player and we went 10 v 10. We anticipated a cricket score knowing how strong Warrington are and the lack of numbers we brought and carrying injuries with the players that turned up. Warrington's kicking game was exceptional and scored 3 tries with a nice kick over the defensive line for the backs to chase and score. We looked a little out of it in the first half and was 25-5 down at the end of the first half after Luke had managed to force his way through at least 5 defenders to cross for the score from 10 metres out.
We regrouped at half time and picked our selves back up. We realised that we had to keep the ball in the middle of the park with our forwards to have any success as Warrington's strength was with its backs. The second half was a lot closer and we managed to maintain a lot more possession. We kept the pressure on them and again managed to create a try from relentless pressure and continuous rucking and mauling. Charlie took the ball and managed to create a bit of space from nothing before dart forward and diving for the try. Warrington again where successful with the kick chase, they booted long twice and not having a natural full back in our team they broke through twice from a kick and managed to score. With time up and Warrington leading 40-10 we had to keep possession. We worked our way inside the Warrington 22 and they conceded 3 penalties in a row for hands in the ruck allowing us to reset and gain yards after yards. They had repelled attack after attack with solid defence but Chayse tapped and played a dummy to Ewan on the move which the defence bought allowing chayse to find a gap to break through for the score in the final play of the game but unfortunately he managed to break a bone in his left hand ruling him our for a number of weeks.
Man of the match chosen by the Warrington coaches went to Reece for a spirited and tough performance. By far the best tackler on the pitch easily dropping lads twice his size and dangerous with ball in hand.
All in all a great game of Rugby, we did ourselves proud against a solid Warrington team. Thanks to Warrington for being fantastic hosts. All players, coaches and parents made for a great day of rugby. Good luck for the rest of the season and hopefully we get to play them again with our full squad.
Final score Warrington 40 - 15 Tyldesley
