Brock Inspires a Rocks Revival

Brock Inspires

Determined to avoid a third successive heavy defeat,Tytherington Rocks recorded their first win of the season, with a
3:2 home victory over Shortwood United Reserves on Saturday at home.Rocks started decisively, giving Shortwood little time to get into their stride and within minutes Ashton Herbert, the Shortwood keeper was in action , tipping a Dan Marshall cross over his bar.The home side continued to dominate the first 15 minutes and were rewarded when Jim Brock opened the scoring, volleying Safian Skupinski cross onto the underside of the crossbar and over the line. The balance of play then moved in the visitors favour and Chris Manns in the home goal was in action several times with diving saves.Tytherington took every opportunity to turn defence into attack playing the ball forward constructively with Zayn Alime often threatening Shortwood's left flank.Brock continued to cause problems in the visitor's penalty area whilst Rocks penalty area was put under pressure with long probing throw ins from Shortwood.Tytherington had several opportunities to increase the lead before half time, but with the last attack of the half, Shortwood's Luke Bennyworth levelled the score at 1:1 with a well judged lob over the Rocks Keeper. The first 15 minutes of the second half belonged to Shortwood United with Chris Manns in the Tytherington goal making several decisive
saves. He rode his luck when, following a misunderstanding in defence,Josh Jones shot wide with the Rocks goal beckoning.
Tytherington increased their lead on 72 mins when from a pinpoint cross by Shomari Sengor, Jim Brock took the chance to drive home his and home team's second goal.Alime was replaced by Justin Pritchard on 82 mins and as play swung from
end to end , Bobby Humphreys was gifted the softest of goals by the otherwise faultless Rocks keeper, to level the score once more, at 2:2.However with almost the last play of the game, Jerome Ingram headed home to give victory to the home side.
The win lifts Tytherington Rocks off the bottom of the League and gives the team fresh enthusiasm

for their next fixture away to Clanfield on Sat 20th Sept.
