Tytherington Rocks 3 - 1 Cirencester Town

Remember the date !

This was the day that the Tytherington Rocks club were presented by the Hellenic League ( Div 1) West shield –champagne flowed on the players who sang “ we are the champions ” and there was photo session in front of the shield, after this last game of a glorious season.

Gary Powell’s team accrued 80 points, eighteen more than second-placed Old Woodstock and twenty two more than Winterbourne who will go to the Hellenic Premier League because the Rocks and Old Woodstock don’t have the gradings that the Hellenic Premier League wanted.

It was an anti-climax for the club, but now there is a lot of hard work at the Hardwicke Playing Fields on and off the stadium by the clubs’ directors and manager Gary Powell, who will be hoping to have another amazing season, next year.

Against Cirencester Town Development the Rocks purred with a table-toppers’ performance by beating the opposition easily.
The title –holders went ahead on the half-hour with a magnificent 25 yard free-kick from Stuart Nelson , his eighth goal of the term , after Jack Smyth had been up ended.

Right on half-time Cirencester got a surprisingly equaliser when the Rocks’ defence could not stop captain Nathan Hawkins who propelled the ball into the far corner.
Tytherington looked like champions in the second –half with Andy Criddle and Tony Perry were colossuses in the heart of their defence and , in the engine room, both Adamo Missiato and James Mooney worked hard to control the midfield. Up front Justin Bishop was back on form but it was the performance by Toby Colbourne who took the plaudits in the air and on the floor.

With hailstones pelting down Smyth went on a blistering run in the 68 minutes, and his low cross went to Bishop who scored.

With nine minutes left in this great season Missiato pushed Bishop down the middle , who beat a defender and squeezed the ball past the goalkeeper to collect his 19th goal of the season.

As Rock’ chairman Ted Travell said :-“ History has been created and will be hard to surpass. Today will never be forgotten”.

The presentation evening will take place on Saturday May 12th at the Alveston House Hotel . Cost per person £18.00, tickets available from the club.
