New Season

Believe it or not it’s nearly the start of the season and it’s time to get outside for some training….. I’m keen to kick-off this Sunday with a bit of a ground party to do some minor bits and pieces around the place followed by a hit and maybe some fielding. The ground is still very wet so the likelihood is we’ll be limited to nets. Either way it’s important we get back into the swing of things ASAP and make sure we’re ready for the season. So ground party from 1pm Sunday followed by a net. There’s not an awful lot to be done so if a good few of us turn up we’ll get done quickly and get training……. If there is any doubt weather wise, please get in touch and if possible make the effort, still keen to do a bit on the ground regardless of weather- repairs to nets, covers on etc but not likely to train.

Apart from anything else it will be good to see everybody again and get back into it!

Please remember that it’s our club and we all have to make a contribution to it!!!!!!! Please don’t expect others to pick up the slack if you don’t make the effort.

Last year turned out to be possibly the best season the club has ever had and it happened because we all contributed. Not just winning the league but the way we went about things, the success of the 3rd XI coming back etc- there’s no reason we can’t do the same in 2014 if we all put the effort in both on and off the park.

A few things to note in case you’ve been hibernating

• Euan Stirrat has taken over from Jim Lockhart as President and has already made an impression by running a hugely successful club dinner
• Matt McEwan will be our Pro in 2014. Matt is a contracted player with Canterbury in NZ, is a 23 year-old all-rounder and is also an accomplished coach. Matt will be arriving around 17th April all being well and is looking forward to joining us. By all accounts he has wheels……
• One or two new players look set to join us- more to follow….
• GB is making a comeback following his premature retirement in 2013 ;)
• Training days Tuesday’s & Thursday’s 6.30-8.30pm – we need to improve our training! Looking to start WB 14th April on Tuesday’s & Thursday’s, Matt will be running structured sessions and the expectation is for FULL participation and attendance.
• Subs- Subs are DUE now and NO PAY NO PLAY will be used if there are any non-payers come June 1st. Details are on UC&SC website. Senior playing subs are £175.00
• Match-fees we are looking to have a standard home and away match-fee of £5 per match for Saturday’s.
• Club clothing we have switched provider to Serious Cricket and have a club “shop” at http://www.seriouscricket.co.uk/shop/section.php/1302/0 all clothing is available direct from the website only.

Look forward to seeing as many of you as possible on Sunday at 1pm……please let me know if for any reason you can’t make it and forward this to anyone I might have missed or whose details I don’t have to hand.
