History
We are fortunate to have the honour of being the only club that is able to represent the University of Gloucestershire at the highest level of a BUCS League, with the First Team competing in the Super 8s. The league is highly competitive with the likes of Loughborough and Leeds Met Universities.
Our Second team competes in the Wales and West League, against several First teams and with numbers in the club increasing every year, this year we will putting out a Third team which will compete in the South League.
We welcome players with all levels of ability to the club whether complete novices to the game or keen enthusiasts of either code of rugby.
The First team last year was made up of several freshers who had never played a minute of rugby league before they joined and the Second team consisted almost completely of freshers.
So don't be afraid to get involved if you have never played rugby league before.
We have a quality social side to the club as well, the main events being on a Wednesday night with fancy dress and a quality venue it is not something to miss out on.
Join our facebook group and we will do our best to answer your questions and get you started.
Congratulations to members of the club who gained representative honors with Dan Poulton signing a contract with Co-Operative Championship side Sheffield Eagles.
Michael Venn, Ross Gard and Andy Webster (Scotland), Patrick Evans and Gareth Speers (Wales) and Adam Fieldhouse (Great Britain) have all been selected for international honors.
Well done to all those involved in 2009-2010 season it was a superb one for the entire club.
The Firsts fully justified their inclusion in the Super 8s by finishing fourth and the 2nds showed the depth in the club by coming second in the Wales and West league.
These results did not go unnoticed as UGRL was voted club of the year by the Student Rugby League SRL) for the 2009/10 season.
Awesome lads! All in all a superb effort by everyone. Let's continue to push forward in 2010-11!
