USP win on the road

United Services were on the road for their first league game of the campaign. They traveled to Ellingham and Ringwood RFC, in what turned out to be a game of two halves. Ellingham and Ringwood got off to a perfect start moving 18 point ahead after 30 minutes. United Services were clearly to excitable and unable to string any phases together. With 10 minutes to play in the first half, USP finally put more then 3 phases together and started to make inroads into a strong Ellingham and Ringwood defense. Leading to a scrum 5 meters from the Ellingham and Ringwood line. After Ellingham and Ringwood conceded a penalty from that scrum some quick thinking led to a quick tap and USP finally went over the line. USP had another penalty with time up in the first half, they decided to go for the lineout and from the lineout drove Ellingham and Ringwood further into their half, USP put 3 or 4 phases together which lead to space on the outside with a great backs move they ended up with a 2 v 1 on the wing. The slippery ball just slipping out of the last players hands to go into touch and call an end to the half.

The second half saw USP finally calm down and put phase after phase together. With some brilliant attacking play from inside their own 22 lead to a penalty near the Ellingham and Ringwood line. The scrum was called and like the try in the first half the try came from a penalty at the scrum and a quick tap and powered over by USP. USP were looking dangerous now and with tails up started to put phases together resulting in another try from open play through some lovely interplay between the forwards. The last try for USP came from a maul in the Ellingham and Ringwoods 22, a steady drive allowed the USP pack to drive over.

Ellingham and Ringwood were to have the last say of the game and with time up they went for the bonus point, they put some strong phases together which led to there back line finding a space to slide through and score under the posts.

It was an excellent encounter between the two sides and results with USP getting 5 points on the road, with lots to work on. Once USP click it will be a scary day for any opponent with such a strong pack and skilled back line.
