U15s Lose Away at Fareham Heathens 60-12
Plenty of positives from tough away match
Greeted by grey skies and torrential rain many were wondering if we would be playing at all on our away friendly at Fareham Heathens.
As it turned out the rain stopped and left near-perfect conditions. Fareham started brightly with two quick tries as US Portsmouth tried to find an answer to their powerful direct running. US did up their game with more intensity in the forwards and better tackling. As the game progressed US also pressed more in defence and at least held their own for increasing passages of play. Fareham played consistently well throughout. They scored either having pounced on a US error or having run powerfully to set up wonderful attacking positions.
On the bright side US kept playing and competing right to the the final whistle so there were plenty of positives to be drawn - not least with some new players making their first appearance and integrating well into the side. The team scored a try in each half which was scant reward for sustained periods of attacking play from both forwards and backs. There was plenty to be positive about from US - not least their heart, enthusiasm and team spirit.
The match was played in good spirit and was ably managed by an impressive 16 year old referee.
Both teams came away having enjoyed the match. US have plenty of positives to draw on as well as some things to work on in training before the next league match.
