Following another extremely successful year for the Sharks it was time for us old boys to say goodbye and a new committee to be voted in. The Shark's biggest achievement over the past year was finally managing to defeat all our University rivals in one season; crowning us the best Uni team in the UK!
The establishment of this new website along with increased membership, the fullest match calender we've had in our three year history, finishing the year with a great win to lose ratio and our addition to the University of Birmingham Sport roster are all elements which have developed the team for the better and cemented our standing as a fully fledged side; recognised both as a University Sport and also a major player in the local Aussie Rules scene.
Plans for the future are also looking good! We are aiming to have our first ever International Rules Match against the uni Gaelic Team in early June, something which will boost our profile not only around uni but hopefully also across the UK. The move to becoming a fully affiliated University sport will also help the club; bolstering our presence around uni and allowing for more better equiped training sessions. This also helps to establish our future as a University sport. We are also excited to see how some fresh faces on the committee will further develop the club!
With this in mind we went into the AGM, nearly at the end of our season, with proud smiles on our faces and anticipation building on who would be taking over control of the club. But first came the fun awards, the results of which are below:
Most Valuable Player: Matt Godfrey.
Best Fresher: Ollie Di-Lieto
Captain's Choice: Dan Seymour
Hard Hat: Ed Clampitt
Goal of the Year: Anish Patel
Most Improved Player: Andy Mawson
Dick of the Year (To be renamed the Seb Goodwin Award): Seb Goodwin
Funniest Moment of the Year: David Ayre
All the recipients of these awards have helped make this year a completely unique one for the Sharks. They celebrate achievement both on and off the pitch; either by simply making us laugh and ensuring we had fun at every single session, working behind the scenes making sure everything ran as smoothly as possible or completing a match winning play! Needless to say they all have something to be proud of.
And finally the evening concluded with the election of next year's committee, the results of which are as follows:
Club Captain: Ben Massey
Secretary: Ed Clampitt
Treasurer: Ian Kafka
Kit Secretary: George Dibble
Social Secretaries: Will Slatter & Ollie Di-Lieto
Once again massive congratualtions to these guys on getting elected! We hope you enjoy the positions you've got and we look forward to seeing how the Sharks will continue under your guidance next year and beyond!
