Alumnus Chris "Bubs" Nebenzahl leads local alumni in supporting and helping program

DU Rugby Alumni are working together to assist and support the overall University of Denver Rugby Club. After a recent meeting with the coaches and student leadership of the team, it was determined that the club could really benefit from a more organized alumni and parent structure that could assist the club with its development and operations.

Chris Nebenzhal hosted an alumni meeting recently in which local alumni participated and nominated a seven member board to get this initiative off the ground. The initial board will consist of the following alumni:

  • Jason Hornik
  • Jace Jackson
  • Gabe Bram
  • Franky Sowers
  • Pat Callahan
  • Trever Hanson
  • Chris Nebenzahl

This group will be working to reconnect alumni with the DU Rugby team and the overall club structure. With current estimates, we believe we have approximately 25% of the DU Rugby alumni base identified with lots of work to do to connect to former players and members of the club.

Additionally, the alumni board will be working with the club to assist on key initiatives with the next one being our March 4th, 2017 home match that will see the entire club host a crucial high school match between Denver East High School and Aurora Saracens, followed by DU Rugby vs. UNC Rugby. Our Alumni board in conjunction with the Sustainability Committee on campus will be hosting a BBQ to support the club during these events.

We hope you will find ways to connect alumni to our club again as well as support the various initiatives that are coming.

DU Rugby will be looking to work with parents in the upcoming months to mirror the same structure to hopefully truly blend the club and work together to grow rugby at the University of Denver.

Chris Nebenzahl can be reached at cnebenza@gmail.com and we thank him for his leadership with this initiative.
