DU Rugby returns to campus and completes week one of pre-season

The winter-spring season started with a bang this past week as the student-athletes returned to the Pat Bowlen Training Center and to a skills session. For many, it was a rude awakening to the physical requirements of rugby and the holiday period showed for many. However, the work ethic was strong as our young men pushed through some challenging workouts and fitness testing.

"The first week back is a great way for us to gauge were we are as a team in terms of fitness and skill level", shared Stu Halsall, "We have clearly identified the improvement areas needed and now we need to get to work to achieve our goals so we can become a much better team."

This period in the season is a great opportunity to work with a number of student-athletes to enhance their ability as a rugby player. It was fantastic to see a number of new players perform well in week one and these players offer a great opportunity for the overall squad to improve.

With DU Rugby reaching two national championships in its history they know what it takes to get there and the whole team has a lot of work to do to achieve this.

"Our focus is on improving each day", shared Stu Halsall, "We know we need 30 student-athletes that can start and compete as the back to back games in the spring are a challenge and our goal is to get the squad to this level."

DU Rugby will continue its fundraising efforts this weekend by working the hockey games on the ice crew and will also be recruiting next week to try and identify new potential players for the team.

We are looking forward to a great winter/spring season and appreciate everyone's support.
