Friday Night Lights: UF tops rival FSU

Spring break started just the way the Gators wanted: a decisive victory over the Seminoles.

Playing in front of a packed home crowd, UF continued its domination against FSU with a heavy dose of defense and a scoring boost from two freshmen in the 22-6 victory.

The Gators wasted no time getting on the board as inside center Jason Lentz found the try zone just three minutes into the match. Lucas Baistrocchi successfully converted the kick to give the Gators an early 7-0 lead.

FSU was able to add three points on a kick at the 10-minute mark, but the Gators fought back with a score of their own late in the half when Matt Nakamura scored with 5:30 left to give UF a 12-3 halftime lead.

Once again, Florida got off to a quick start in the half as Baistrocchi nailed a kick to widen the lead to 12 points.

Although the Seminoles responded with a kick of their own, the Gators would hold them scoreless for the remaining 34 minutes.

Freshman Ben Gajus put the icing on the cake with a try at the 23-minute mark, and Baistrocchi kicked the conversion.

It was a resounding victory for Florida against their rivals from up north and marks the third consecutive victory as UF has outscored its opponents 143-13. Florida will resume match play on March 17 against LSU at UVS FIeld.
