Gators Drop Close Home Opener

The Gators put up a valiant effort, but came up just short in their season opener against South Carolina.

Florida started the scoring with a try by Dourrian French within the first minute. Although the try was in the corner, Lucas Baistrochhi was able to convert the try.

Not to be outdone, South Carolina responded with an unconverted try at the 5 minute mark. Florida picked up another 3 points on a penalty kick by Lucas. South Carolina kept the game close with a PK at 19 minutes.
23 minutes in USC scored a 2nd unconverted try off of a quick penalty. USC followed with a converted try at 28 minutes. Lucas brought kept the score within reach with a PK at 30 minutes.

The final play of the half was a try by Lucas Baistrocchi, but he was unable to convert for the tie. Halftime score USC 28 UF 18.

South Carolina started the second half with an early try that they were able to convert. 12 minutes in, Lucas picked up 3 more points for Florida with a PK.

Two minutes later, USC kicked for 3. The Gamecocks scored again with 10 minutes left but couldn't convert. Florida needed two converted tries to tie the game and made a valiant effort.

At 78 minutes, Lucas scored his 2nd try of the day and followed with a conversion. USC held off the determined Florida to keep the score at 35-28.

Baistrocchi was Florida's man of the match.

The Gators travel to Knoxville this weekend to take on the University of Tennessee, who Florida defeated in the SCRC Championship.
