Gators Fight Hard but Fall Short Against Tennessee

Missing starters Jason Lentz and Paul Rice, the Gators put forth a valiant effort against rival Tennessee but came up short in Knoxville.

Tennessee proved to be too much for the Gators on Saturday.

The first half was a close contest with tries by Ryan Gilbert and Laurence Kidd. Both tries were converted by Lucas Baistrocchi.

The score at halftime was 19-14 to Tennessee.

Unfortunately for UF, the Volunteers owned the second half. Penalties plagued the Gators, who struggled to get much going on offense. Lucas picked up three points with a penalty kick before Dourrian French scored the lone second-half try for Florida for the final play of the game.

After Lucas nailed the conversion, the game ended with the Volunteers winning, 42-24.

Although the Gators couldn't get the job done in Knoxville, it was a solid effort by a young squad. UF will try to get its first win of the season this Saturday against Kentucky in Gainesville.
