With the Fall semester approaching an end, we take a moment to reflect on the struggles and accomplishments of the UFRFC this second half of the semester.
15's: The Gators began the second half of their season with a 1-1 result at All Florida Day in two extremely close games. Returning to Miami provided them with their second win in as many trips, this time going up 59-12 over the University of Miami to secure themselves the 3rd seed in the Florida Cup. With the knowledge that they would be facing tough competition in the form of a rematch against FAU, the Gators hit the training grounds hard. Unfortunately, their season was ended all too early in a second heartbreaking 13-8 loss against FAU. The Gator 15's will be taking the off season very seriously, preparing themselves physically and mentally for the SEC competition next Spring.
7's: The Gators fought through two tournaments in their fight for an invitation to National's. At Volunteer's Olympic Rugby Invitational, a friendly weekend of hard competition, Gator 7's emerged 2-1 with victories over Tennesee and Georgia and a loss against South Carolina. Armed with the knowledge of what it would take to secure a spot in National's, the Gator 7's squad went undefeated to make it to the championship match in the SCRC Olympic 7's playoffs before losing a tight 20 minute match against Auburn in the final seconds. However, their hard work paid off as the performance was notable enough to earn them an invitation to the 7's National Championships, where they look to prove their worth!
Now perhaps most importantly, get excited for the Fall '13 UFRFC Alumni Weekend! There is plenty of activity to go around as we look to host the Mastergators for a weekend of celebration. Come out to Maguire Field at 8:00 PM to support our Gators in a scrimmage against Georgia Southern, followed immediately by the Alumni meet and greet and post game social at Mothers. Saturday morning we look to gear up for a UF Football home game with an Alumni social, followed by the game itself and more post game celebrations. Finally, we round out our Alumni Weekend with the traditional UF vs Mastergators match, 11:00 AM at Maguire Field!
