SPECIAL SATURDAY FOR UPMINSTER

A brilliant 119 from Alan Ison against Loughton helped Upminster 1st XI to a great victory and secured their position at the top of the Division One table. Upminster won the toss and put Loughton into bat in hope to fully utilise the damp conditions. It wasn’t to be for Upminster this week with the bowlers struggling to pick up many wickets. After 50 overs, Loughton finished on 251/5 with Bilal Butt making 85.

Upminster started poorly in reply, losing both openers with only 24 on the board. In-form Frankie Hazle and Alan then put on 93 for the third wicket to set up a strong foundation for the innings. Alan Ison was the main stay of the chase as he hit 10 fours and 2 sixes in his 119 to almost see Upminster home. Alan fell with 12 runs needed to win but James Aggio-Brewe and John Curtis kept their cool and got to the target with four balls remaining. (Scorecard)

Upminster 2nd XI bowling attack once again came to the party and produced an excellent all-round performance to bowl out Woodford Wells to secure a 17-run victory. After losing the toss and being put in on a damp track, Upminster got off to a solid start with Tigg and Billinghurst putting on 50 for the first wicket. When Billinghurst smashed a long hop down long-on’s throat it was proceeded with four more wickets falling to leave Upminster reeling at 75/5. The returning Junaid Sarwar (42) and captain Nicky Ison (37) battled through and slowly got Upminster up to a decent score with a 83 run partnership. A quick 20 from Billy Wright at the end set Woodford Wells 193 to win.

Max Carter-Miller bowled a fantastic opening spell as he picked up the first wicket. Jack O’Dowd picked up the next 3 wickets as Upminster kept chipping away. With 6 overs to go Billy Wright struck with his last two balls, having the dangerous Sterling caught at cover and trapping the Wells captain plumb in front. Victory was sealed when the captain Nicky Ison took a smart caught and bowled for his third wicket of the game. (Scorecard)

Andrew Berry and Rob White starred with the ball for the 3rd XI in their 5 wicket victory over South Woodford. Berry picked up 3 wickets, whilst White took 4 as they skittled South Woodford out for 105. Stew Hammond was the backbone of the reply and batted through the innings for 40* as Upminster chased down the total in 40.2 overs. Bobby Mack continued his good form with a quick 25 to see Upminster home. (Scorecard)

Captain Steve Limn made a timely return to form with a boundary laden innings of 56 as Upminster 4th XI posted 222. Jake Giddens also made 41 with handy contributions from Ant Limn (31) and Josh Lamont (26). All the Upminster bowlers bowled well as they restricted Colchester from the start. The veterans Karim Govani and Kevin Roome both picked up two wickets each as did left-arm spinner Tom Larke. Tom Daniels finished off the innings taking 3 wickets in 7 balls to confirm a very good win for the 4th XI. (scorecard)

The 5th XI romped to a ten wicket win over Chingford this Saturday thanks to a lightning quick 56* from Joe Wyatt. The Squance/Bright partnership were at it again as between them they took 6 of the Chingford wickets with Khan, Mayor and Halliwell also joining the wicket party as they bowled out Chingford for 70. Sohail Iqbal scored a magnificent century for the 6th XI as they very impressively chased down 238 over Harold Wood on Saturday. He found a great partner in Will Bottoms who made 68 in his new opening batsman role. The game was over when captain Paul Scott hit his first ball for 6 to secure an unlikely victory. Earlier in the game, 14 year old Ryan Brown bowled 12 overs in two encouraging spells as he picked up a brace. (Scorecard)

On Sunday, Ellis Pickering made 50 as the Upminster U12 defeated Ilford in their latest Peter Coe match. Upminster chased down 146 with one ball to spare to secure a great victory over Ilford.
