2nd XI pick up vital win.

A fluent 48 from Julian Whetstone and vital contributions from Pickering (20), Aggio-Brewe (22) and Matt Tigg (34) helped Upminster post a winning score after a tough start. Four of the top 5 all departed for single figure scores but the strength in depth came to fruition on Saturday. John Curtis and Will Chuter picked up early wickets in reply to leave Southend reeling. A brace from spinners Matt Tigg and Oliver Peck backed up the earlier good work from the seamers. John Curtis came back on and finished the game off, finishing with three wickets.

Nicholas O’Dell was the star of the show for the 2nd XI on his return to Upminster colours on Saturday. O’Dell and Waghorn (38) put on 96 for the third wicket to put Upminster in a strong position at 149/3. Upminster then lost 4 wickets for 50 runs but a late 55 run partnership in the last 5 overs from Nicky Ison and Billy Wright resulted in the innings ending on 249/7.

Carter-Miller bowled with some good pace in his opening spell and he eventually cleaned up the Southend captain for 8. On a very flat Southchurch Park pitch, the runs kept flowing and at 136/2 the game was in the balance but Billy Wright soon swung the game into Upminster’s favour, taking three quick wickets. Joe Sibbons scored an excellent hundred for Southend but when he was run out with three overs to go by a sharp under-arm throw from Nick O’Dell, all hope of a Southend victory was over. Upminster win by 25 runs.

Arun Kullar continued his good bowling form taking 4-49 in his 10 overs, but it wasn’t enough as Upminster’s failed to chase down Chelmsford 225. Robert White top-scored with 24 but no-one was able to put an innings together as Upminster were dismissed for 140.

Upminster’s 4th XI almost chased down 241 on Saturday but fell an agonising 7 runs short. Tom Daniels once again shone with the ball picking up four wickets in his ten overs. The top 3 in Kullar, Hortop and Sagoo all made thirties but none of them could go on to get a big score. Paul Stratton scored 62 to get Upminster in touching distance but despite 24 from No.10 Daniels, Upminster couldn’t get over the line.

Upminster 5th XI- 144 all out. Oakfield Parkonians 148/4

A top partnership from Sohail Iqbal (80) and Casey Adams (68) was the backbone of the Upminster reply as they managed to survive and pick up a draw against Oakfield Parkonians 4TH XI. Oakfield Parkonians made 213/4 in 43 overs with only Adams and Iqbal picking up wickets.

The Sunday League side picked up their first win of the season with a last ball victory over Bardoli. On a dry, difficult Upminster pitch Arun Kullar and John Curtis picked up 5 wickets between them in the opening 16 overs as Bardoli were struggling on 37/5. The last 6 batsman put on just over a hundred runs to set a decent score of 140. Upminster’s innings went very similar to Bardoli with the top 5 going cheap and at 32/5, defeat seemed imminent. A 73 run partnership between Nicky Ison (35) and Josh Lamont (45) gave Upminster a chance of victory and it came down to Upminster needing 6 of the last over. Ison was bowled by a ball that kept low, but it didn’t matter as the famous cool calm head of Billy Wright saw Upminster home with a boundary on the last ball.
