A round up of the weekend's rugby....

Saturday saw the 1st XV travel to newly promoted Ilford Wanderers for the third league game of the season and looking to win three games on the bounce, something which hasn't happened for a while.

In a stop start affair the 1st XV ran out winners by 22-7 securing the bonus point with the last play of the game after a try from replacement second row Luke Potter. Additional tries were scored by Greg Dordoy, replacement scrum half Harry Lockwood and Dan Smith scoring his fifth try of the season. The 1st XV are still joint top with Wanstead after securing 15 points from a maximum 15 points.

The 2nd XV were at home against Braintree 2nd XV and despite dominating the game and after some indifferent decisions came out on the losing side, losing 31-22. Despite a late reshuffle in the side Upminster scored tries through winger Jordan Schwarz, Jack Simmonett and two from Mark Everitt.

The 3rd XV travelled to Chingford and played there 3rd XV. Unfortunately, due to the reshuffle in the 2nd XV it had a knock on effect in the 3rd XV and they found themselves on the receiving end of a 59-0 defeat.

Sunday saw 4 of the Youth sides in action, the U13's playing Rochford, the U15's against Maldon, the U16's against Thurrock and the Colts against Cambridge in the National Colts Cup.

The U13's ran out 55-0 winners in there second game of XV a side rugby against a determined Rochford Hundred.

The U15's played host to Maldon in the league and a thrilling end to end game saw the teams play out a 33-33 draw.

Upminster U16's played local neighbours and rivals Thurrock in the Essex Waterfall Cup and after losing a few players to injury were on the end of 43-12 defeat.

Finally, Sunday lunchtime saw the Colts kick off against Cambridge in the National Colts Cup. The visitors who were well organised, started brightly and started to dominate the early stages. Credit must go to the Upminster lads who never once gave up and managed to get over the try line towards the end of the game for a consolation try. The final score was Cambridge 59 Upminster 7.

Looking forward to next weekend, we have the first VP lunch of the season followed by the 1st XV at home to Lowestoft & Yarmouth and looking to extend the winning run.
The 2nd XV travel to Eton Manor RFC for an early kick off and the 3rd XV are at home v Basildon in the Merit League.
