Upminster lose out to Norwich in hard fought game which was last of the season. Starting the game playing down the slope Upminster came flying out of the traps using their big forwards to make huge dents in Norwich's defensive line, and with some quick recycling from a ruck the ball was shipped out to left wing NICK HARVEY
who ran over his opposite number to draw the last man and pop the ball back inside to centre Matthew Munn who crashed over to score Upminster's first try, the conversion was missed. From the restart Norwich hit straight back and were awarded a penalty to which their fullback stepped up to slot over three points. Soon enough Upminster won themselves a penalty with some good work in the scrum Norwich were penalized for standing up, JAMIE PAVITT
made no hesitation in kicking over three points. Norwich survived a scare when some missed tackles allowed Upminster to surge through and pound their line only to see the visitors redeem themselves with such determined defence that the hosts were penalised on the floor allowing Norwich to breathe again. The rest didn't last long, as soon enough Upminster won themselves another penalty again from great scrummaging putting pressure on the visiting pack, Pavitt added another three points to Upminster's score. Norwich won themselves a penalty inside Upminster's half and opted to kick for the corner, there their forwards quickly set up a rolling maul with their flanker spinning off the side to crash his way over, the conversion was successful. In the last minutes of the half Upminster won another penalty in Norwich's half and JAMIE PAVITT
was on hand to slot over three points. Score at half time 14-10 to Upminster.
Following a period at the start of the second half where both sides fought fiercely to establish dominance without clear success, Norwich compiled their best move of the game in which they kept recycling the ball before spreading it wide to their outside centre who had enough pace and strength to beat the cover and score a very valuable try, the conversion was missed. Norwich were soon again on the score sheet with a line out inside Upminster's 22', Norwich's hooker threw the ball way over the top for their outside centre to collect on the bounce and race in to score his second try, the try was converted. Upminster hit straight back from the restart, with some good from their forwards they won a penalty. With just a few minutes left Upminster were guilty of going off their feet at a ruck and penalized for it, Norwich's fullback stepped up to slot over three points. With now the last play of the game Upminster tried everything but were again penalized at a ruck this time for not releasing and again Norwich's fullback stepped up to kick over three points. Final score 19-28 to Norwich.
