URFC 2s 45-29 Millwall 2s
Teamwork is the key to success fro URFC 2s
Upminster 2s decided to take a gamble ahead of this fixture by only putting one sub on the bench so as the club could ensure they fielded three teams for only the 2nd time this season , but the question on everyone’s lips was – would that be a mistake !
After URFC 2s beat Millwall 2s away earlier in the season one could be forgiven to think this should be a nailed on victory for URFC 2s, however Millwall did not read the script before they come to a windy & cold Hall Lane.
Again URFC were asleep from the start, which is something Captain Mat Black really needs to get out of the system as this is costing the team dearly in the first 15 mins of every match & this match was no different.
Millwall started like a steam train & secured the ball from their own kick off & 10 Mins in URFC didn’t know what day of the week it was, particularly when Millwall went ahead 0-7.
After some stern words from Coach Dan Smith the team shook themselves out of the nightmare they were in with Dan Curdan leading the way from the back of the pack & soon Upminster were nudging ahead.
With only an average points scored against sitting at 7 points before this match Upminster were keen to keep their good defence going but Millwall were showing no respect to a club who had won 13 from 13 & Millwall were looking to take a big scalp back home to the Island with them .
Upminster forwards started to turn on the power & their backs started to turn on the flair late into the first half which see them go in 20- 12 up .
In the 2nd half with Upminster now playing down the hill things were falling into place for Upminster & their dominance in the forwards was starting to show with some excellent pick & goes that had Millwall in all sorts of trouble & this dominance saw Upminster open up a lead of 25 points with 2 quick tries following some great line outs by the pack.
Credit has to go to Millwall who never gave up & they run a try in on the final whistle which see the final score come in at 45 – 29 & even though the Braintree game from last week as a tough match, it’s fair to say to the Millwall Team this was possibly the hardest a team has pushed Upminster 2s this season, so great work from the Millwall Team
Nest week is a week of league fixtures for URFC 2s before they face there next big test & with the winning mentality that Coach Dan Smith & Captain Mat Black is instilling in this team which has a great mix of youth & experience securing a spot in this team is becoming harder each week
