This week Upminster were at home to Maldon .We knew it could be a tough match as in the past they have been dominant and have knocked us out of the Essex cup in previous years
Upminster started strongly and after 2 minutes Alfie Jiggins scored after a scrum on the five metre line which was converted by Will Marshall. Good defensive play kept Maldon in their own half. After a scrum in their 5 metre Will Marshall pulled off a training ground move with Joe Davies and Josh Biggs ran through to score
Maldon were dominant in their tackling making big hits .Jack Wood Murphy took a knock and was substituted by Patrick Warriner.
Half time score was14 -0 to Upminster
Substitutions were made with James Wilson replacing Lukas Thomsen and Ben Kennedy on for Matthew Jolly. After a big kick off from Will Marshall and fluid passing by the team Mitchell Lacey managed to score a hatrick in four minutes ! Amazing ! Well done Mitchell
7 minutes later a big tackle by Maldon's number 10, a ruck formed leading Haydn Jenkins to put in a kick leading to Jack Hammond striding and diving into the right hand corner. No conversion this time but the score was now 40-0
Finley Rea and Ollie Greenway joined the fray
Maldon came back strongly with good runs and moves from the backs and excellent rucking from the forwards. Never the less Ben Kennedy stepped two players right on their try line and unselfishly passed to Findlay Gilmour to score under the posts. This was Upminsters 7th try with a great conversion from James Stanley ending in a win for Upminster 47-0
Well done to the backs for pulling off moves to confuse Maldon and for great rucking and defence from the forwards
Man of the match to the birthday boy Joe Davies with an excellent performance.
Well done boys
