Could of, should of, possibly, nearly, if, but and maybe.
In the words of an X factor judge - that was an amazing performance - you tick all the boxes.
Clapton came to Rochford on the back of a 50 point loss the previous week but with young exuberance looked to make a mark in their first Division 1 fixture after promotion last year and that they did.
The forwards stayed the same and with captain Felix fit again moved to inside centre to bolster the back line.
Clapton started slowly and after a 5 minutes fell behind to a well worked try from the opposition 13 who broke one tackle and used his speed well to outrun the covering defence.
UCFC upped the ante and started to put some phases together but a missed timed pass lead to the ball being picked up for the score to go 12-0. In previous games we've seen the boys heads go down but with the forwards starting to dominate with great bulldozing runs form Liam, Kenty, James and Callum, Charlie stepping in well to dig the ball out and help the back line in building pressure in both defence and attack lead by Felix and admirably supported by both Connor, Jacob and George.
Clapton had lots of go forward but time and again the home sides defence held out until Harry Barker found space in their 22 and going over to bring the score to 12-5 just before half time.
The second half continued with both teams looking to ask questions of each other and the defences having the answers made for a very tense and entertaining game. Tas and Kieran Church made tackle after tackle and Keiran deservedly took the MOM award. Andrew made a number of breaks and was very unlucky to knock on when over the line and Kenty being held up it was just not quite to be. Rochford were happy to hear the final whistle.
A special mention must go to new Aaron for taking down the opp no. 8 who was at full gallop and at least twice his size when clean through!
Congratulations go to the whole team for a super performance.
