Barstow Jnr plays just like his dad used to.
After the encouraging performance the previous week Clapton faced a friendly fixture against close rivals Wanstead on Sunday. This gave the opportunity to give all the squad a good run out before the up and coming league fixtures.
Most changes were made in the backs where Lewis Pyne was making his debut in the centre. It was also great to see Aaron Daly making his first start of the season afte Joe Barstow had chopped his finger off at school!!!
The game was split into quarters so that both teams could make regular changes. Skipper for the day Archie Unstead kicked off and the Club were soon on the front foot. What has pleased the coaches most this season has been how the players are developing as a team and this was evident as the pack starved the visitors of any kind of possession as their work in the loose was outstanding. Lewis was also making an impact with his direct running. Birdy opened proceedings with a try (the first of five) after picking up from the base of the scrum. Tries also followed by Kieran Church and Tas Alexandrou x 2. Conor Dowton and Aaron Murphy also crossed the line, both scoring their first tries for the club. The boys did concede one try in the second quarter but apart from that produced a flawless performance.
This result will give the boys confidence as they travel next week for another tough league match against Braintree and a chance to reunite with Sam Warwick who moved there at the start of the season.
The MOM grass went to Jack Sullivan who is at the heart of all that is going well with the pack.
The pink handbag of shame went to Joe Barstow who in tricky wet conditions dropped the ball......a lot :-)
