U 15s - Match centre

Sun 13 Mar TBC - Friendly Full time

Upper Clapton U14s 54 – Basildon U14s 0

Not to be outshone by the under 17s Claptons under 14s also managed 9 tries on Sunday against a Basildon side that although lacked the firepower of their hosts, never gave up and were a credit to there watching parents and coaches.

The boys have been playing a more expansive game in recent weeks that has enabled more of the team to get on the scoreboard. There were five different try scorers on Sunday but the chief talking point was the performance of Nqoba Mvitsho.

Now Nqoba has been a player for the club for the past 4-5 seasons and during that time has scored around a dozen tries in total. On Sunday however he cut loose as the ball came flying out to the wings and crossed the line a staggering 5 times. This tally could have been even more if he hadn’t decided to substitute himself midway through the second half having just touched down for his fifth try.

To say however that this game was purely the Noqoba show would be an injustice to the rest of the team as they all worked hard by recycling the ball well and using their hands to move the opposition around the park.

Birdy, normally a forward had a good half in the centre and Aaron Murphy who usually plays on the wing debuted at scrum half for the second half. Other noticeable performances were from Charlie Harris who played at scrum half in the first half then came back off the bench in the second half to play wing and put in a cracking tackle on the Basildon number eight. As well as the 5 tries from Nqoba other scorers were Birdy, Tas, Felix and Lewis.

The MOM award went of course to Nqoba while the Pink handbag of shame was awarded to Joe Barstow (for the second time this season) for fracturing his wrist at school while playing American football!!!, a ward of warning young Barstow, one more award and you get to keep it...FOR GOOD J

Next week the Under 14s travel to Maldon for a friendly match.
