U9's Staffs Tournament
Talent and progress shines through at Walsall for the final tournament of the season
With only just enough for a team, we were hoping for no breakdowns (car or emotional) or injuries in the run-up to the tournament. 4 matches for the day - Burton, Cannock, Lichfield and Longton all of whom are strong teams; meant fitness came to the fore as there were no substitutes to provide back-ups or breaks. Luckily all the kids kept themselves fully hydrated and fuelled between matches (mostly Haribo and Vimto flavoured chews - I think the England team nutritionist has something to learn here)
As normal Joe used his steamroller technique to drag in most of the opposition tacklers, and with some savvy offloads he created tries for the nimble pace men of Charlie and Dan H (even Dan's shoes couldn't keep up with him at one point). Dan S & Jack followed suit with some equally barnstorming runs through the middle which either created or set-up several tries as well as making some great defensive tackles. Dylan provided one of the tries of the match which was a just reward for some superb support play and Theo gave his performance of the season, with several cracking tackles, showing pace and sidestepping skills galore.
No-one kept score, but Uttoxeter put into practice a huge team effort showing their commitment and skill, resulting in at least a couple of wins and a draw .
Truly awesome all-round effort and some superb skills on display - well done Uttox.
