We struggled to play with any real fluencey in our game, which was partly due to Hayes who made it very difficult for us from start to finish, as they have become a real hardened opponent to play against.
However, if Craig Tomkins had have beaten Simon Grant early on in the game when well placed then things might well have been different for us.
Michael Murray, Danny Julienne
and Rob Fitzgerald all went close on goal during the half, with Hayes unable to muster clear-cut opportunity at the other end.
Grant was impressive in goal for the visitors in the second-half as was John Peacock for the Reds, with both keepers showing bravery for their respective side's when it counted.
Grant managed to get a glove to Mark Dennison
's flicked header, following Murray's free-kick.
Then the key moment in the game on 56 minutes, with the sending off of Fitzgerald for a second bookable offence after a foul on Hayes striker Matty Woods.
Ross Ahir should have scored soon after but shot wildly over the top, and then in his side's next attack he saw Peacock come quickly off his line to save bravely at his feet.
Peacock followed this up by saving with great courage to stop a dangerous Woods in full flow.
Murray put over a testing free-kick into the Hayes box from which Grant flapped at, but unfortunately Dennison's lob went just too high from the edge of the box.
AHIR bundled the ball home in our penalty area in the 81st minute.
Grant saved very well from Murray's deep free-kick and he held onto Tomkins drive from 20 yards out to make sure that Hayes would hold on to claim the bragging rights on this occasion!
