GROUND DUTY ROTA

Welcome to the New Season

The notes and attachments are all based on what Fred did last year, BUT THERE ARE SOME IMPORTANT CHANGES SO PLEASE TAKE TIME TO READ THEM. I have not attempted to understand how Fred allocated the teams to the calendar dates - I have just tried to be as faithful as possible to the same running order.

As I have taken over from Fred after his six or so seasons I have to try to be as meticulous as him but without the benefit of his experience and memory so if you see an asterisk next to your name on the Ground Teams list that means I don't have your address/telephone number but have somehow managed to get the papers to you. If that's the case please can you get in touch with me, using the contact information below so that I can fill in the blanks.

I will be distributing some of these notes by email where I have details but for next season I will be compiling a full list of email addresses so that we can streamline next year's distribution arrangements. So please email me with your email addresses if you have them.

All these notes will be posted on the Vale's website.

Following upon last year's notes I am pleased to say the Ground Teams continue to grow, which shows a tremendous contribution and commitment to the Club. Any new names are always welcome.

YOU WILL NOTE THAT "A" TEAM FIXTURES ARE AGAIN BLANK FOR THE SECOND PART OF THE SEASON. THIS IS DUE TO THE 2NDS BEING IN A CONFERENCE LEAGUE THIS SEASON. THEIR FIXTURES FOR THE 2ND HALF WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE UNTIL MID- DECEMBER. I WILL NEED TO ENTER THESE ONCE THEY ARE AVAILABLE.

This year the Grounds Committee Chairman has asked if the Ground Teams will spend a short while replacing divots on the first team pitch after the games in the winter months. I have incorporated this into the procedure notes but I have not increased the size of the Team as the help is only required after the match. It would be great if extra help could be given to this task on an ad-hoc basis by those attending the match. We might need to review this informal arrangement in due course.

Notices have been placed in each changing room asking that the lads respect the new areas and place all their waste in the containers provided. Let's hope this works. !!

I have formed the teams based primarily on last season and identified the Saturdays and matches where you might be available. Please forgive me if there are any howlers in here - if there are they are not intentional.

If you have a problem with an identified date please either arrange a change with another Team or contact me at the numbers/email shown above.

If there is a chance that the games will be off due to frozen grounds, please check the website first, then contact the Club or me round about lunch time to avoid you making any unnecessary journeys and have the disappointment of no game.

Once again we have new helpers and the note below is intended to help in outlining the procedures. If there are any important changes to the procedures I will ensure that they are put on the web site rather than re-circulating directly to Teams.

Ground Duty for the Season ( Procedures )

PRE MATCH

1. Arrive at the Club 90 minutes before KO, depending on number of matches.

2. Obtain keys for changing accommodation from Clubhouse. Might well be already opened by the players.

3. Get the Flags and Post Protectors from the Grey Container at the back of the Changing Rooms. The Heineken Post Protectors and 4 Heineken flags are for the main pitch, together with 12 new striped flags. There are red Raging Bull PPs and 14 flags, and blue Halbro PPs and Flags for other pitches. There is a golf trolley for carriage.

4. Put out Flags on Pitches indicated by Board detailing Changing Accommodation.

5. Flag to be raised certainly on 1st XV days. Just the Vales'. Flag Pole has been ordered.

6. Benches out in marked areas for replacements.

7. Cones out to leave space for Ambulance in case of emergency.

8. One of the Team MUST stay around the Changing Rooms area when teams go out for warm-ups for security purposes. Make sure Changing rooms are locked once vacated.

DURING THE MATCH

1. One of you to be on hand to open a Changing Room in cases of injury.

2. Make sure Refs are well looked after please. REMEMBER WE RECEIVED THE WHISTLERS TROPHY THREE SEASONS AGO. CAN WE DO IT TWICE? REALLY DOWN TO THE WAY US GROUND LADS LOOKED AFTER THEM. I THINK THIS IS IMPORTANT PLEASE OFFER THEM ALL HELP.

3. In good time for the Teams and referees coming back in - NO TEA JUST ORANGE JUICE. PICK UP A GALLON OF CONCENTRATE FROM THE KITCHEN (BUT COLLECT FROM CLUBHOUSE IF NECESSARY) IN THE CHANGING ROOMS AND MIX AS REQUIRED. THIS WENT DOWN WELL LAST SEASON!!

POST MATCH

1. Make sure all flags and Post Protectors are back in storage and bring in benches. Flag lowered. Rendition of the" Last Post" if you like.

2. Spend a short while replacing divots on the main pitch. Mainly a winter months' job. Try to enlist some support from those attending - the more helpers the quicker!

3. Time for a well earned beer. (Don't forget First one complimentary as a Thank You. You deserve it!!!)

4. Return to the Changing rooms for final clean up. Make sure everything is secure and now back for another gallon of beer as duty is completed.

Let's hope the weather is kind to us all this season and we get to see some cracking games.

Thanks again for all your offers of help.
