TOURS TO VALE OF LUNE
Organising a tour? One or two games or more? Why not come to the North West and play against us and our friends at Kirkby Lonsdale RUFC?
Our two clubs are situated approximately 15 miles apart and, as such, can offer fixtures for touring sides who want to play a reasonable standard yet enjoy a beautiful area of the country with good social facilities. Vale of Lune play in North 1 West (level 6) and Kirkby Lonsdale in North Lancashire / Cumbria (level 7); we have three other senior teams, Kirkby two and they all play in various leagues in the North West Intermediate Leagues. Vale have a Senior and Junior Colts team and Kirkby have one Colts side. Both clubs have full mini / junior sections and this is a great "positive' for any touring sides. Staying in the centre of Lancaster, Vale are situated a five minute coach journey away, Kirkby half an hour away. Arrive in Lancaster Friday evening, play one M/J section Saturday morning, Saturday afternoon "at leisure' then play the other M/J section on the Sunday morning before heading home. What could be easier?
We are aware that a lot of touring clubs head for Blackpool with its various attractions, but from our own touring experiences, the location tends to matter less than the events that take place on the tour. We think that our towns can offer as good an experience as our Lancashire neighbours whilst providing rugby on the doorstep, which Blackpool isn't able to do. Lancaster is a University city with a corresponding social life; nearby Morecambe is next the sea and has many pubs and clubs whilst Kirkby has a vibrant social scene for a small town, with the rugby club being very close to the hearts of the understanding residents.
Both towns offer a variety of accommodation and we are currently in the process of negotiating deals with a number of hotels; Holiday Inn, Best Western, Premier Inns and Travelodge have premises in the city, all of them less than ten years old. Larger independent hotels are available in Morecambe while smaller bed and breakfast accommodations are available all over. Kirkby Lonsdale has independent hotels, B and Bs, caravan sites and camping as well so we are very well equipped with accommodation to meet every customer's needs.
Kirkby Lonsdale is twenty minutes, Morecambe fifteen minutes and Lancaster five minutes away from Junction 34 of the M6.
Last season, we catered for a number of touring sides from all points of England, a Colts side from Wales, a touring side from Scotland and Mini / Junior teams from the North and Midlands. We have been extremely flexible, accommodating a couple of clubs who were let down by other clubs in the North West who gave back word at the last minute.
