TEAMS from the Vale saw off the Village people in style with clear victories in Division 5 North of the North West Counties Squash League.
Vale 1 consolidated their position at the top of the league with a 5-0 win at home to De Vere Village Hotel 3 from Blackpool. Jeremy Stopford and Adam Holtham maintained their season-long unbeaten records, scoring 3-0 wins. Andy Haines and Shaun Gorry also notched up 3-0 victories while Stuart Featon at No 5 did not have to raise a racket as his opponent failed to show.
Vale 2 played away, taking on De Vere Village 4 and emerged clear victors. Steve Thompson made a rare appearance but won 3-0 at No 4.John Harker lost a closely fought battle at No 1 and the usually reliable Chris Halldearn suffered an uncharacteristic defeat at No 2. Teenager Max Castaldi won 3-1 in a highly charged battle with an experienced opponent. Vale took the match when Village failed to field a fifth player.
