Ashcroft set for second term

Former coach Greg Ashcroft takes over coaching role for the Valley Cougars

Following the restructuring of the Valley Cougars for the coming season, Greg Ashcroft, who coached the Cougars to their first Welsh Conference title in 2008, has agreed to return to the club for the coming season. Greg had previously played with Pontypridd R.F.C before going north to gain honours with Dewsbury, during which he played for them for three seasons in the 1970s and starred in their 1973 Championship Final win, when they beat Leeds 22-13 at Odsal.
Team Manager Martin Lewis stated, "It is fantastic to have someone with Greg's experience back on board as he has the respect of the senior players that have remained with us from his first stint. We are grateful that he has agreed to come back into the fold. Having Greg back is sure to be an asset to our club as his experience in rugby league is going to be invaluable to the new lads coming through the system"
Greg has confirmed his commitment to the Cougars by stating
"I am pleased to renew my ties with Valley Cougars R L, this season. I hope to emulate the success we achieved as a team in 2008 when we became the Conference champions. I am really looking forward to working with the lads again, and developing relationships with the new guys. I know that I can work well with Clive, Martin and Ian and look forward to establishing the Cougars as a real force in the Welsh Conference "
