NORTH DOWN 1st v VICTORIANS 1st XI Match Report 4/2/12
Victorians got back to their league programme today. This was the top of the league clash with North Down. Victorians boosted a full squad for this match.
The game started with Rachael McMillan from the push off going straight on the attack passing 3 players and winning a free. Ashley Irvine, who had been impressive in Galway the week before, had been added to the attack with Danielle Hamilton. Irvine picked up the ball released it to Rachael McMillan in the circle who turned and fired a thunderous shot passed the helpless DaCosta; 1 nil after 1 minute. The game continued with the midfield of Hannah Irvine, Rebecca Blundell
and Jenny Hayes constantly supplying the forwards with great chances but the North Down keeper Dacosta was in outstanding form, pulling off several saves. The game continued in the North Down half with Jenny Hayes in great form breaking up most of their attacks and assisted by the attack’s hard work rate.
The defence of O'Donnell, Ruth McMillan, Katherine Welshman and Emma Walker were seldom troubled in the first half, but dealt with North Down attack. Anna Lockhart and Rebecca Cowden were introduced to the attack. Cowden played some nice hockey and was unlucky not to score.

The second half started off as did the first half with Victorians attacking and Dacosta in the North Down net in outstanding form. North Down upped their game and played nice hockey and forced Pollock into several good saves. Eve Bloor and Bronwyn McLean were introduced to the attack of Victorians. On a quick counter attack by North Down Benson picked up the ball and fired a shot passed Lucy Pollock. Victorians went all out in attack and with the in form McLean got their second goal. Both teams played nice hockey and tried hard to get another goal. The two keepers were in fine form and made sure there were no more goals scored.
