1. About Vigo RFC

......You know you don’t have to be tough to enjoy Vigo RFC and all that entails. Yes, we are a rugby Club but although we run three Senior sides, we also have a lot more to offer.

There are three senior sides and a Veterans side (over 35) catering for all abilities. Coaching is on Tuesday and Thursday evenings under floodlights. The First XV play in London and South East 3 whilst our 2nd XV are currently in Premier 2 East.

The Extra A XV (or 3rd XV) currently enjoy life in the Shepherd Neame Division 5 West and is primarily there to bridge the gap between the Juniors and Seniors and those who just enjoy a more social game of rugby.

We have always prided ourselves on our youth. We were one of the first clubs in Kent to embrace the concept of mini-rugby and we still have a thriving junior rugby section, catering for children from the age of 5, both boys and girls.

Mini-rugby is on Sunday mornings, with frequent matches against local teams and many rugby festivals around the county. The youngest children play ‘tag rugby’ with minimal contact, progressing to contact rugby once they reach Year 4 (Under 9).

The spacious Swanswood Field is quite a colourful sight most Sundays as over 100 children are put through their paces by our fully qualified coaching team. We have been proud to have seen several of our youngsters get to County level, and even one receiving International honours.

We have a large Clubhouse with a cosy bar for those who just want to come and watch. The bar prices are reasonable, probably cheaper than a pub, with large picture windows when the weather is inclement. Frequent social events and themed evenings are run throughout the year, and the Social Membership is growing in proportion to the success of the playing side.

The fields are a bonus for those with families where the children can play while the parents enjoy a friendly drink.

Vigo RFC began life as a ‘pub side’ and gradually evolved into the ambitious club we see today. But we have never lost sight of the fun, the friendliness and camaraderie that brought us together back in 1969, and we never will. We have a competitive playing side, but we are essentially a family orientated club. All are welcome from players to spectators, boys and girls, from children to parents.

There is always a warm welcome at Vigo RFC
