with our deepest sympathy

I have learned of the sad death of Ann, beloved wife of ex-President David Wells, after a long illness.

David tells me:
Ann had a spell in hospital for six weeks, following a resurgence of her cancer. She then came home with nursing care for the last four weeks and
died peacefully in my presence on the 17th August.

Ann had supported me and our sons Angus and Dominic through many years at Vigo RFC and although she would definitely not say rugby was her first love she always made sure we went on the pitch with clean kit. Also, when the Club was going through a difficult time, it was she who suggested that we had to find a way to help get the Club back on an even keel.

A sociable and determined lady, she carried her adversities stoically
over many years and made many friends whilst in Kent. She was born in North Yorkshire, however and she came back home to end her days, here in Ripon".

On a personal note, I am truly sad. Ann was a lovely lady, with a marvellous sense of humour, who didn't suffer fools gladly but who treated everyone with respect and forbearance. I am sure the condolences and deepest sympathy are shared by all members of the Vigo family to David, Dominic, Angus and their families.
Sleep well, Ann, God Bless.

Further to this, there will be a Celebration of Anne's Life at Ripon Cathedral on Friday 28 August at 2.30 pm. Bright clothes please.
