2nd & 3rd XV CAPTAINS FOR 2018/2019

INTRODUCING THE NEW CAPTAINS 2018-19

BEN BUCKLAND 2nd XV CAPTAIN
I have played at the club since I was a 5 year old youngling; I have continued to enjoy playing for 16 years. I originally started as hooker as soon as scrums were introduced to our age group, right up until my first senior rugby season, at which point I then played flanker and am now currently playing as the shortest 8 the club has seen (getting closer to the backs as the years go on)!
My plans for the 2nd team is to develop all the players that are coming through and fighting for positions, by helping them to learn more about the game and advance their play with the help of seasoned players, those who have played longer than time. With them passing on their knowledge and their skills to advance the players who love the game. This will hopefully mean that I can also get players to bring on the younger of our ranks in the youth section by encouraging players to be available to assist on training days.
The 2nd team has been promoted due to the ultimate power we have as a team this season and I have a good feeling about this and I look forward in continuing the progress that has been made by solidifying our position in the new league and proving that Vigo is more than just a small club with a big heart and that we are a disturbance in the force.
Quote for the team by J.M.Y “do or do not, there is no try.”
CARL NIGHTINGALE 3rd XV CAPTAIN
Carl has been with the club 13 years and has played for all senior men’s sides during that time. Carl joined as a 11/14, and as the years wore on, moved ever closer to the pack where he now takes up the position of lock or openside. Prior to joining Vigo, Carl played 14 for Chobham RFC 1st XV in Surrey. Carl is an ex-Loughborough graduate where he wore the 14 shirt for the University 1st XV and also (in a slimmer form) managed to get his backside over the high-jump bar at national levels).
Carl says ‘’We have had a tough 2017 season, and we acknowledge that to support the two other senior sides having been promoted, it is imperative that we have a solid foundation in the club to build on and nurture players coming through. Blend this with an invigorated interest of older senior players who are wishing to return, makes for what I hope will be a rewarding season for all across the club. I don’t like using the phrase grass-roots, but there is never a truer phrase as we build that solid foundation for the forthcoming season.’’
