Vinters still seeking their second win of the season competed at home against Ashford Borough.
Vs Ashford Borough 25th September 2011
Due to ongoing injury, the goalie’s position was shared by Brodie Fernandes in the first half and Matt Copeland in the second. The away team were forced to wear bibs due to a colour clash.
With the usual starting line up, early Vinters pressure forced play into the Ashford half with good runs from Matt Copeland and Jamie Petrie on each side of the field and continued throughout the half with Ashford forcing play back with exciting end to end stuff. It was a fast moving half with Vinters having a handful of chances, but the goal eluded them. The had a goal disallowed for offside and Will Sumner hit over the bar, Jamie Petrie had a shot saved, Matt Copeland scooped a shot but it also went over the bar and Brodie saved an Ashford shot from a corner kick. Despite their best efforts, Vinters left the field with a 0-0 half time score.
The second half saw no substitutions and the teams locked horns in battle again. It seemed Vinters were dominating the game with more shots on goal from Brodie who had a long range shot saved, Chris Carcary had a header saved and eventually the home side were awarded a free kick on the right hand side. It was a lovely strike by left back Will Reynolds as it glided gracefully into the top right corner of the goal 1-0 Vinters. Thinking they had found the winning goal, play continued but the tired Vinters players let their guard down in the area and in the dying minutes of the game, Ashford scored the equaliser. Final score 1-1.
