The rumour was, there were scouts watching the game, which seemed to inspire the boys, as it turned out it was the Park manager possibly after the manager’s job !!
The Green’s started well with Owen Ashworth
linking up with Ollie COX in the middle of the park, some great tackles from Ollie COX saw Green’s dominate early possession. The Green’s showed some good passing and shape despite the sticky conditions caused by the mud. Raiders still had a strong counter attack and both Kieran Filmer
and Brett Norman
made some great clearances to break up the potential attacks. As the half wore on the Green’s came into their own with a great solo run from Owen Ashworth
that finished with a shot and a great save from the Raiders keeper. This was followed by a maizey run form George Lewis
that was blocked by the Raiders defence. It was honours evening at half term and a half where Robbie ELDRIDGE had been almost unemployed, which makes a change, would it continue?
The second half got off to a great start with Brett Norman
playing in defence linking up with the attack to burst into the area and score another sensational solo goal, 1 – 0 to the Green’s ! The Green’s took control now with some great play from the wings, first a good run from Owen Ashworth
led to a cross to Harry
HIGHHAM who shot just wide. This was the first of three shots from Harry
HIGHMAN, set up by both Brett Norman
and Owen Ashworth
. One of the best moves of the game saw the Green’s adapt the long ball game, as a great interception by Robbie ELDRIDGE in goal saw the opportunity and a quick kick down field saw a one on one for Olly COX before a last gasp defensive tackle. The Green’s pushed up looking for another goal and not for the first time were caught on the counter attacked by raiders, but this time good defending from Kieran Filmer
and Cameron Murphy
producing some great cover work. The Green’s held out for a deserved 1- 0 win, a great performance and a win in the first game, not seen this for a while, Green Army !!.
