UVA falls to Wake Forest 27-13 in Danville, VA. The team moves to 2-1 on the season and 1-1 in ACRL play.
On March 24, the UVA Men’s Team lost to Wake Forest by a score of 27-13. The morning of the game, UVA traveled up to Danville, VA due to field conditions. On a waterlogged field, UVA struggled to play its backs oriented game. The backline effort was led by the hard running of Left Wing Robbie Hemstreet, who scored a try in the game, and Scrumhalf Chris Curtin, who touched down one try and had another one called back for being held up in the try zone. Inside Center Sean Farias also contributed with a strong effort defensively with a slew of big hits. Outside Center Julian Henderson and Right Wing Pat Brown had a tremendous sequence of grubber kicks that almost led to a try, which was ultimately disallowed as a knock-on.
The UVA forwards had a gutsy performance playing against a much bigger Wake Forest Pack. 8 Man Zack Addis and Tighthead Prop John Thompson led the defensive effort with strong tackles that were able to drive back the Wake Forest pack. Lock Joey Murphy, Loosehead Prop Kevin McGrath, and Flanker Andrew Vivirito also contributed with a series of punishing runs. Hooker Dixie Moffett and Lock Eddie Bittner won almost every offensive line-out and the pack as a whole was consistently able to drive down the field with a series of mauls. Flanker Cam King and Flanker sub Chris Millisits also added solid performances with their great rucking. The team is now 2-1 on the season and 1-1 in league play.
