Sholing could only manage a draw in their final league match, when nothing but a win would be enough for the title
Sholing fell at the final hurdle in their quest to be champions of Tyro div 1. This means they have finished runners up behind Pace for the third consecutive season, so the frustration & disappointment was palpable as the boys trooped off at the end. Added to the cup semi final defeat, it was all pretty hard to take because the lads have deserved some silverware for their performances this season. Having said that, progress has definitely been made & the future is bright. The match itself was a nervous affair, especially the first 20 minutes. However, Sholing created chances & stayed true to their passing game, with Adam Redwood & Harry Weeks unlucky with efforts that skimmed the Warsash bar. At the start of the second half, Harry jinked through & curled a shot inches wide, crosses across the box just eluded our forwards & the Warsash goal generally led a charmed life. We were hit by a sucker punch 15 minutes from time when we were caught on the break & a Warsash forward finished well with a shot high into the net. To Sholing's great credit, they fought back to equalise through Harry, with a shot from inside the penalty area. With just 5 minutes left on the clock, a corner was headed powerfully toward goal by Charlie Coombes & seemed to rebound off a Warsash defender when a yard over the line. Unfortunately, the goal wasn't given & lady luck again deserted us. Such are the fine margins is sport. Regardless, The management, coach & parents couldn't be more proud of the effort you have put in this season boys. OUR TIME WILL COME. We should also say well done to Warsash for an excellent performance from them.
