Sholing FC took the long trip to Bideford for this match and althought the better side Bideford took the points with two second half bazaar goals both from long throw ins from distance. Sholing played the better football throughout and had the better chan
After the four hour journey to North Devon for this tough match against the team in third place in the league. Sholing FC made a few changes at Bideford to the team that won so well at home to Newbury in the FA Cup.
Todays Team; Mike Hookway, Mike Carter, Marc Diaper, Dave Marden, Lee Bright, Iain Seabrook, Barry Mason, Tyronne Bowers, Kevin Gibbens, Byron Mason, Marvin McLean.
Subs used, Lee Wort, Nick Watts, Jamie Austen.
unused Subs; Adam Camfield, Jack McCarthy.
The match started so well for Sholing with Marvin McLean and Barry Mason working hard down the wings. Marvin had an early chance when he brought out a good save from Bideford keeper. further chances came for Barry and Kevin Gibbens all off target. Bideford had a couple of chances when good midfield play brought out a good save from Mike Hookway. Sholing were starting to dominate the match and Byron Mason had a good chance when through only to shoot past the post. In the 29th minute Byron again went forward only to be clattered by the Bideford keeper, the referee awarded a penalty which was converted by Iain Seabrook for a 1-0 lead. Sholing continued to be the better team with good chances for Marvin and Byron but Bideford keeper made some good saves, but in the 37th minute Bideford equalised with a well taken goal against the run of play, a quick shot on goal was paried by Mike Hookway only for the ball to go to a Bideford player to slot away.
Sholing started the second half confidently and the defence was working hard and Bideford were not getting through to test Hookway. Mike Carter was cautioned for dissent on the 49th minute after asking the referee why a free kick had been given. Byron hit the post with a good shot but Bideford were working hard and closing the Sholing players down quicker than in the first half.
In the 66th minute sholing conceded a soft second goal from a long throwin from the left, which was headed on to the left of goal for Bideford player to head in. Lee Wort came on for Iain Seabrook and Nick Watts for Barry Mason and the fresh legs lifted the team. Sholing got themselves back into the game when Wort scored a tap in goal after the ball acme to him in a goalmouth scramble. Sholing again was getting on top and was moving the ball well, with Tyronne Bowers having some long efforts saved. Marc Diaper went off and Jamie Austen came on, to bring fresh legs on in midfield. In the 79th minute the referee penalised Tyz for taking the throwin from the wrong place and awarded the throw to Bideford, who duly threw the ball right into the penalty area where their player scored with Sholing players still trying to get organised. The referee decided to Caution Mike Carter and send him off for trying to clear the ball with a overhead kick, the referee decided that Mike had deliberately kicked his opponent even though the ball was coming from above and deserved to be cautioned??
Sholing continued to make chances even with ten players and were still the better side.
How Sholing lost this match is beyond me, the chances made in the first half should of been enough to win this fixture. We now hope that we have got this match out of the way and move forward and look for the next match
