Sudden Cardiac Arrest, often referred to as Heart Attack, affects 200 people a day across the UK, the old, young, fit and unfit. Young athletes are at higher risk than many other groups, recognising this the Wadebridge Camels have been working with the Front Line Emergency Equipment Trust (FLEET) to provide a defibrillator at the Camels grounds in Egloshayle.

Norman Trebilcock, General Manager of FLEET, remarked “Not only have the team invested in a defibrillator, they have made it accessible to the public 24 hours a day by putting it in a secure cabinet. If somebody in Egloshayle suffers a cardiac arrest, the 999 operator at ambulance control is able to instruct the caller in how to provide CPR and direct any bystanders to get the defibrillator.”

Christian Brown, Paramedic Clinical Supervisor at Wadebridge Ambulance Station, commented “This is a fantastic addition to the community. The only treatment for a victim of Sudden Cardiac Arrest is effective CPR and early defibrillation. The defibrillator that has been purchased helps rescuers provide effective CPR whilst putting it on the side on the clubhouse means the whole community can benefit, improving chances that early defibrillation will occur.”

Norman added “Once again Local Electrician Duane Trebilcock and Yesss electrical have been fantastic and showed their support by installing the secure cabinet free of charge.”

FLEETs project for 2014 is to have a public access defibrillator installed in every town and village across the Cornwall. If you can help or would like to find out more visit www.fleet.org.uk or call Mike or Norman on 07977445312.
