The U21s overcame an early set back to win the Knockout Cup on Penalties this evening at Bodieve Park.
Pelynt started the game with the wind behind them and took an early 6 min lead when a total mix up in defence allowed them to open the scoring. For the first 20 minutes the Bridgers were unduly quiet, but when they did find their feet, they became a threat to the Pelynt defence with Gwion Robertson being the main threat. How the Bridgers did not level in 1st half was a mystery, but Pelynt could easily could have had at least another goal, but Ethan Thomas and the defence managed to snuff out the Pelynt attack.

Manager Dave Peck made a couple of changes at half time with Ethan Elwell replacing Ethan Thomas in goal and Dan O'Hara playing at right back instead of James Venning. The Bridgers were now taking the game to their opponents with Pelynt content on playing on the Break. The next goal was going to important to both sides, and it was the Bridgers who grabbed on 69 minutes when Gwion Robertson profited from a lapse in the Pelynt defence to level the scores. Both sides went for the win in the final 20 minutes but neither side could find a break through. So it was on to extra time

The 30 minutes of extra time failed to produce a single shot on target from either side and with both sides visibly getting tired, most efforts at goal were wide or easily dealt with by the keepers.

So it was onto the dreaded Penalty shootout.
The Bridgers were 1st up and from the moment Ben O'Conner smashed home the 1st penalty and Ethan Elwell's stunning save from Pelynt's 1st penalty, the Bridgers did not look back. There was a moment of drama for the Bridgers 3rd penalty which Dan O'Hara's effort was saved only for the Referee to order a retake after his Assistant spotted the Keeper off his line before the ball had been kicked. With the scores 4-3 in the Bridgers favour, it was left to Ed Green to score the winning goal for the Bridgers.
Bridgers 5-3 on Pens.
