Waid FP 1st XV - Report
Date: Saturday 19th January 2013 - Kick Off: 14:00
RBS Caledonia Regional Leagues - Division 3 Midlands A
| Waid FP (1xv) | 10 | vs | 10 | Glenrothes (Dev) |
Waid Academy FPRFC 10 - 10 Glenrothes RFC
One of the very few surviving rugby games in the country was an all Fife affair between the East Neukers and Glenrothes in the Caledonia Midlands Division 3 East A.
Conditions were far from ideal, with blizzards and wind periodically turning up throughout the game and Waid were missing some significant players from their usual line-up
Waid kicked off with the wind behind them, and immediately took control of the game. Glenrothes were being pushed off the ball by the heavy Waid pack and the home side pressed hard for the first points. A blocked Glenrothes kick rebounded behind the Glens defence where rapid winger Lucas Miskiewicz pounced on the ball which had landed over the line, to give Waid the first score.
The remainder of the first half was sloppy, mainly due to conditions playing their part. The ball was tough to hold on to and many knock-ons resulted in numerous scrums.
The wind had picked up in the second half to make life harder for Waid, but unphased, ran the ball hard to the oppositions line.
A scrum inside the visitors 5 meter line saw Adam Shaw pick up and go from the number 8 position. Shaw went blind and gave the Glens defence no chance to defend and Waid were up by ten points to nil.
The home side lost their hooker through a yellow card but were able to hold their line whilst down to 14 men. However, the clean sheet soon came to an end and the Anstruther side only had themselves to blame after backchat to the ref saw them lose lots of yardage before Glenrothes managed to ship it out wide and score in the corner.
Waid soon found themselves in their own 22 again and a spillage meant it was a scrum to the visitors. Replicating what Waid had done earlier, their number 8 went blind and the away side were able to get their second score in the corner. As the conversion was missed, the game ended 10 apiece.
Captain & man of the match Adam Shaw said, “The conditions certainly did no help today but neither did our discipline. Our inability to adapt to the conditions and the opposition has cost us in the last two weeks, an now today”.
Next weeks sees a rematch as Waid travel to Glenrothes for their second league clash subject to weather. Kick off will be at 2pm.
