Wakefield FC V Hemswort Miners
The days the clocks went back provided an absolutely fantastic game between Wakefield FC and Hemsworth Miners. After some mixed results in the 4 games they played last year, this was sure to be a feisty one, and it did not disappoint.
Wakefield FC started off the better team, with the Midfield of Jay Hopkin, Sam Tyson, Farzin Motevasselzadeh and Rene Rowe, and Attackers Patrick Lewis and Sam Ghomi pressuring the Hemsworth defence; and it only took 15 minutes for them to be 2-0 up. The first goal was scored by Sam Ghomi, who hit a hard strike toward the goal, which was fumbled into the net by the Hemsworth keeper. The second was scored (Unsurprisingly) by Patrick, who made an impressive run from the right and blasted it into the net.
Wakefield then dropped off with the attacking, allowing the defence of TJ Kadiyo, Sam Beresford, Panashe Katema and Tom Hardwick, with Goalkeeper George Mitchell, to do their jobs. However, Hemsworth brought their game, and scored 4, all before half time. Wakefield 2-4 Hemsworth at Half Time.
But the second half was totally different. First off, Wakefield got the necessary two goals back in quick succession. A cross by Patrick was finished of neatly at the back post by Sam Tyson, giving Wakefield hope. Then Rene Rowe finished off a corner by Sam Ghomi, amid much confusion around the six yard box and goal line.
Hemsworth then once again stepped up, and got another goal soon after making it 5-4. Wakefield may have been disheartened but never gave up. The attacking six once again tried and tried to get another equaliser, and were rewarded. There was a scrap at the edge of the 18 Yard Box, and Sam Ghomi managed to find Patrick Lewis, who once again slotted it home. 5-5, but that wasn’t the end. No it wasn’t at all, as Hemsworth went straight from kick off and had the ball in the net straight away, leaving some confused faces by the Wakefield FC team.
6-5 down, but was that enough to finished Wakefield. The simple answer was – No. They kept the high tempo of attack, and Farzin got the third equaliser of the game; his first goal ever for the club. But they weren’t finished there, Wakefield wanted all three points. As Sam Tyson was brought down, they had the perfect opportunity – A Free Kick. Ghomi, Tyson and Panashe all wanted it, and Panashe got his wish. It was the correct decision, as he guided the ball into the top corner, and that’s how the match finished. Wakefield FC 7-6 Hemsworth Miners.
