GMWF 60+ League - Match Day 1 - 1st February 2018

“Only 7 goals scored in the 10 matches played in Div 2. We need to convert more of our chances.” Mick Wilde, Team Manager

New season, new division, after being promoted last year.

Started slowly against a very strong Bolton Wanderers side, but thanks to a Mick Wilde penalty save and some well organised defending hung on for a 0-0 draw.

Our second game against Roach Dynamos side, was more positive with very few chances for both sides Dave Holbrow going close on a number of occasions and a great save from their keeper denying John Myatt a certain goal, they then scored with five seconds remaining with a controlled but unchallenged shot.

The third game, we knew we needed to score and gain our first victory, a fine series of passes led to Tony Baker squaring the ball and Dave Holbrow made scoring look easy.

Our final game against Fleetwood Flyers was our best game, with long periods of controlled passing, helping us control a 0-0 game.

A great squad performance with Chris Lund leading from the back, Michelle Walker and Tony Baker in midfield making their debuts to good effect in midfield.

That just Leaves a special mention to Mr reliable Mike Thompson, who was solid in defence and midfield, his passing not quite up to his usual high standard, definitely due to the several layers he choose to wear.
